To commemorate the 100^th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic we are saying ‘All Aboard’ this April at VUE Cinema in Princes Quay and making the re-release of Titanic in 3D our must see movie of the month! For those of you who weren’t around in 1997 this is your chance to see why Titanic held the title for 12 years of highest grossing film, a title it only recently lost to another James Cameron production, Avatar.

It was 100 years ago to the month that Titanic left Southampton, England for its maiden voyage to New York, America. The newly forged Titanic was said to have some of the best technologies of the time on board, as well as been built by some of the best engineers.  It was the world’s largest steam ship and as a result was christened ‘Titanic’, in reference to the Gods of ancient times and given the title, ‘The Unsinkable Ship’.   On the 14^th April 1912 its legacy was determined as it collided with an iceberg and in the early hours of 15^th April it finally sank, and along with it 1,517 passengers out of the 2,223 perished in the freezing waters.  Never since has there been such a marine disaster of its scale.

In 1995 James Cameron’s obsession with Titanic finally came together as he headed out to film the actual under water wreck of the ship, planning to use to the footage to cement the story in the reality of the tragedy.  By1996 the film was in full production, and was released to the world in 1997.  At the time it was the most expensive film to be made, and two studios had to help fund the project.  The film was extremely well received, as actual passengers on the fated steam liner were brought back to life and their tragic demise retold for all the world to share in.

Although Cameron’s care and love for the history of the story helped to make the film such a huge success, receiving 14 Academy Award nominations and been awarded 11 of those, the main attraction for this film was in fact the epic love story that takes place between Jack (DiCaprio) and Rose (Winslet).  After Jack manages to get hold of a ticket by chance for the ships maiden voyage, and lays eyes on the lovely Rose he is instantly attracted to her, despite the fact she is out of his league.

As the young lovers fates become further intertwined, more forces try to come between them, including Rose’s fiancé, Cal (Zane) who is determined their high society wedding will go ahead in America when they dock, and Rose’s mother – who used her young daughter as a pawn to get to Cal, his wealth and to keep her social status.  But when the forces of nature plunge the Titanic into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean no one can predict what relationships will survive this epic disaster.

This heartbreaking and romantic coming of age tale is now brought back from the depths once again for a whole new generation to share in, and we can’t wait to head over to The Vue cinema at Princes Quay and re-live it all over again in stunning digital 3D.  Make sure you book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment at www.myvue.com.

First up we have The Vow starring Rachel McAdams famed for her roles in both The Notebook and The Time Travellers Wife. Supporting our leading lady is the lush and lovely Channing Tatum. We’re sure that this romantic drama will have you sobbing into your popcorn in no time!

It’s been a long time since we’ve had good weepy love story to get into and this romantic number is just what we needed. Based on true events, the film tells the story of Paige and Leo, a happily married couple, until one night a car crash changes their lives forever, leaving Paige in a coma. When Paige awakens, Leo’s relief is soon short lived, as she has no recollection of the man claiming to be her husband. The story develops as Leo fights to convince Paige of the love they shared, as her parents try to draw her away from him. Will Paige fall in love with him all over again, or will their love be lost in her memory forever?

Sad as it may be, we’re sure if their love is lost forever, there will be hundreds of girls more than happy to comfort you Leo!

One For The Money

Our next loved up offering is based on the best selling book by Janet Evanovich, ‘One For the Money’ and stars the leading lady of laughter herself, Katherine Heigl If you didn’t manage to drag your man along to see The Vow, or the thought of more heartbreak was just too much for you, then this romantic action comedy could be right up your street!

When Stephanie Plum played by Katherine Heigl finds herself not only jobless with no money, but also recently divorced and single, it seems like things are never going to pick up for her. Just as we are thinking the unlucky in love star has nowhere to turn, an unlikely job offer from her cousin sees her working in a bail bonds business.

With no idea or practical experience of how to be a professional Bounty Hunter, despite plenty of help from her dishy mentor, the laughs soon start flowing as our gutsy heroine takes on the biggest case on the books.

As Stephanie steps out to prove she’s got what it takes to be a bad ass Bounty Hunter, things soon get personal as the renegade cop on the run turns out to be Stephanie’s high school sweet heart, and landing him in jail is just the pick me up she needs right now.  Hot on his tail, guns aren’t the only thing blazing as something about his case doesn’t seem right? Will Stephanie land herself a huge payout or a handsome new man?

This film is definitely high on our list of must-sees this month and we can’t to see it!!

Everyone is talking about new horror film The Woman in Black, the UK’s No. 1 box office hit, and we can definitely see why! In his first on-screen role since finishing Harry Potter, The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, is a far cry from previous roles. Based on the gothic novel by Susan Hill and produced by the London based production company Hammer films, The Woman in Black is set in Edwardian times with a surprisingly grown up Radcliffe taking on the role of Arthur Kipps, a lawyer and widower left to raise his son alone.

Forced to move to the town that time forgot, Kipps sets out to sort the affairs of the recently deceased Alice Drablow, of Eel Marsh Estate. Inside the mansion lies suspense, shadows, secrets and anticipation around every corner. Hiding our eyes behind our hands throughout this terrifying film was a must and remember to take something warm to snuggle up in as the cold and creepy on-screen manor will literally chill you to the bone!

Outside the mansion there is no relief as the town’s people are no warmer. As they desperately seek to cover up their painful and twisted past from the new arrival, a local landowner lets slip about the mysterious woman in black, who vengefully haunts the town and as Kipps soon finds out, the mansion. Desperate to finish the job he was sent to do, he soon has to work even harder at finding out the truth about the mysterious goings on before it’s too late and the woman in black strikes again… will it be Kipps son who meets the same tragic end as so many other children in the town have already done?

Don’t make the same naïve assumption that we did and let the 12A certificate fool you into thinking this film will be an easy watch. This brilliant return to old-school horror will have you torn between running for the exit and at the same time not wanting to look away from looking away from the film!
